The installations in cars and uniforms will be complete by December.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that its police officers will be required to use in-car cameras and body cameras by the end of 2023.
The VA has its own police force that they utilize on department grounds. To prepare for the use of these cameras, VA police officers will be undergoing training sessions, adjusting for the policy shift before it is fully implemented. Footage from these cameras will only be used in case of investigations or court procedures.
“Our great police officers keep Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors safe at VA facilities every day,” said VA Secretary Dennis McDonough. “Using dashcams and bodycams will make our facilities even safer – building trust in our great police force while increasing transparency and promoting de-escalation.”
